Cricket players and families in Kitchener will soon have a new place to train, connect, and enjoy the sport throughout the year. The City of Kitchener has announced a new community partnership with Grow With Nav Inc. to bring the Grow Nation Cricket Nets to the Cowan Recreation Centre at RBJ Schlegel Park.
The partnership includes a $100,000 contribution from Grow With Nav Inc. over ten years to sponsor the indoor cricket facility. This initiative highlights the growing interest in cricket across Kitchener and creates more opportunities for residents to take part in the sport.
The Grow Nation Cricket Nets will become the City of Kitchener’s first municipally owned and operated indoor cricket practice area. Located inside the Cowan Recreation Centre at RBJ Schlegel Park, the facility will provide players with dedicated space to improve their skills and train in all seasons.
The indoor cricket area will feature:
With these facilities, cricket players of different ages and skill levels will have a convenient location to practise without needing to leave the city.
Mayor Berry Vrbanovic shared appreciation for Grow With Nav Inc. and highlighted the role of community partnerships in expanding recreation opportunities across Kitchener.
Alongside the outdoor cricket amenities already available at RBJ Schlegel Park, the new indoor nets will help establish the park as a year-round cricket destination. The project also supports the city’s goal of creating accessible spaces where residents can participate in activities they enjoy.
For Navjot Bindra, Founder of Grow With Nav Inc., the partnership represents a personal connection to the sport.
“Cricket is part of who I am,” said Bindra. “I grew up with the sport, and now I get to watch my son pick up a bat in the same city where we’re building our life.”
The sponsorship reflects a commitment to creating more opportunities for children, families, and cricket fans in Kitchener. By helping bring indoor cricket facilities to the community, Grow With Nav Inc. aims to create a place where future players can develop their skills and enjoy the game.
The Cowan Recreation Centre at RBJ Schlegel Park is expected to open later this year. The facility will provide a wide range of recreation spaces and programs for residents of all ages and abilities.
The centre is projected to attract around 10,000 visits during its first year. It will also serve more than 30 local sport organizations by providing space for community activities, training, and programming.
The addition of the Grow Nation Cricket Nets adds another option for residents looking to stay active and participate in one of the fastest-growing sports in Kitchener.
The opening of the Grow Nation Cricket Nets marks an important milestone for cricket development in Kitchener. Players will soon have access to an indoor training space that allows them to practise throughout the year, regardless of weather conditions.
